Anchors up

Up at 6:00, quick breakfast of cereal and anchor is up at 7:00 am. We motor-sail east with just the head sail. We have a fairly relax crossing from Andros to Nassau and arrive at the Nassau Harbor club at 1:15pm.

Sun U

I have been emailing back and forth with Harbourside Marine where we bought our 15hp Yamaha outboard 6 years ago. I had to replace the prop 4 years ago just before we left the Bahamas with a spare the Mark had. I did not pay attention to the specifications of the prop that was originally on the engine. I have been suspecting that the pitch is too much for our engine to accelerate properly. It takes a long time to get up on plane when the dinghy is loaded, which was not an issue when we first bought the engine. Since once we leaving the Bahamas the outboard and dinghy doesn’t get a lot of usage traveling any distance, so I did not think much about the performance issue. Anyway the parts manager tells me we have the wrong prop and recommends one with a lower pitch, 9-1/4 by 9 instead of our current 9-1/4 by11.

Nice day on the ocean

Arriving Nassau Harbor

So shortly after we take care of business at the Marina we walk to the Yamaha dealer. Interestingly the prop on the same outboard in the sales department is the same as the one currently on our engine. I ask the sales guys and they shrug and points me the Parts Manager. The Parts Manager tells me the he tells the sales guys to us 9-1/4 by 9. We leave with our new prop.

We stop at a few other stores on our way back to the boat. Fresh Market in the Plaza across the marina is a full size supermarket, close to a Publix back in Florida, just a lot more expensive. We pickup a rotisserie chicken and Bahamian Mac & Cheese (highly recommended by another customer) for dinner. After dinner we play cards on “Sea Vu Play”
