Long Island, Clarencetown

Head to Hillside Supply since the supply boat came in yesterday and it takes a day or so to restock. After that we take the dinghy further south to the government dock and walk to the gas station to refill our 5 gallon gas rail can.

After lunch we meet Mark and Karen at Fox Auto for a car rental that Mark arranged.

We head south to Clarencetown which had been hit hard by Hurricane Joaquin. We were there a couple years ago just a few months after Joaquin. Looks very different now that the vegetation has grown back.

Flying Fish Marina

The Flying Fish Marina has had a lot of new construction. We see a lot of fish, sharks, rays, barracuda and tarpon swimming underneath the fish cleaning station waiting for a hand out, although no fish were being cleaned at the time.

One of our goals was to find an “Ice Cream” shop we had heard about. We actually stop at a police station for directions, unfortunately it is only open in the evenings, so we leave empty handed. As a consolation we stop at another store and buy pints of Mango and Coconut ice cream which we eat on the spot. Like most ice cream in the Bahamas it has been refrozen at least once. Still good, but we hope to find it back in Florida where it is manufactured to see how really good it can be. We stopped at one beach for shelling and sea beans. We have not had much luck with finding sea beans on this trip.

Another beach to explore

Before we head back to the dinghy dock and park the car for the night we take a chance to see if we can catch Gayle and Bruce at their winter home on Thompson Bay. We all first met Gayle and Bruce three years ago in Bimini. They were on their Hinkley sailboat heading to their house on Long Island. Their home is actually in Tenants Harbor Maine. They have since sold their sailboat. We get lucky and find them home and get to have a short visit and get to see their lovely home. Very well build and stood up fine to Joaquin.
