River Dunes

Cool morning, we regret that we took off the electric blankets. Linda finally sees her first dolphin today. We get some late morning sailing across the Pamlico River and down Goose Creek before we head back into the ICW. When we pop out on the Bay River in the Pamlico Sound we get to sail again. We arrive at River Dunes around 2:45. We pull into the fuel dock to get diesel, but their pump out is not working. Then we move to a T-dock for the night. Most of the docks are full with long term rentals and the have few spaces for transient boaters. Unlike 6 years ago when we discovered River Dunes in some nasty weather. They filled all the, then many empty slips with cruisers looking for a place to hide out. They reopened the closed restaurant and served some fabulous dinners for the next three days.

We are disappointed to see the sign on the door saying the restaurant is only open on Friday and Saturday. We walk over to the Cafe which also has very good dining options but they are closed for two days, open tomorrow. When we check in at the marina office they tell us that the restaurant is open for dinner. I talk with the restaurant staff and tell them about the sign and they said that been wrong for a while. I said give me a magic marker and I will take care of that. They are not too concerned since all the locals know its open.

We shower and get dressed up for dinner, no T-shirts, collars shirts required. We have a reservation for dinner at 6:00PM and find a fairly full restaurant. The menu was somewhat limited from their regular menu, but still lots of good choices. Tonight is ½ price hamburger night, which is what Linda wanted and I get the same. These hamburgers have so much stuff on them we have to eat them with a knife and fork. A woman at the next table, obviously a regular, orders all her toppings on a separate plate and an ungarnished hamburger. Why didn’t I think of that!
