Our Parking spot |
Today we planned to drive to Washington DC to visit the African American Museum. It had not yet opened the last time we were in DC by boat. Fortunately, I checked the evening before and found out you need to sign up for free limited tickets on line. You can not get in without a ticket on the weekends and have to wait until 1:00PM on weekdays without a ticket. We have about an hour drive and Google Maps does a great job routing us around slow traffic areas to the parking garage under the Ronald Reagan building.
National Museum of African American History and Culture |
We are a little early for our 11:00 AM tickets, so we head to the American History Museum, close by. The African American Museum is huge and it would take more than a day to really do it full justice. A lot of history that many Americans are ignorant of or have forgotten. We have lunch at the Museum. Cafeteria style food court with so many great choices, making it hard to choose. We finish the afternoon by returning to the America History Museum to finish the new exhibit we started this morning.
We swing by the Capital Yacht Club to see all the improvements from 3 years ago. Nothing is recognizable, totally new water front with shops and restaurants and new yacht club building.
The area that we previously entered by is now Phase Two and that area has been totally razed. Empty lot starting new construction, so nothing is familiar. We return to Annapolis by 7:00 PM.
