Hoffmans Cay

Up at 6:00 AM to get ready to head south to Hoffmans Cay in the Berrys. Linda puts away the remaining shells on our dock and I go pay our bill for the last month.

 Calm morning

We are heading to Hoffmans Cay with “Sea Vu Play” and “Bellaventure 1”. Robert and Karen on “Bellaventure 1” are from Nova Scotia. Robert built Bellaventure, a 40 foot sailboat himself, even hand laid up the fiberglass hull. A very impressive boat, probably twice our displacement.

Leaving through the Cut

Before we can sail south on the east side of the Berrys we have to sail north on the west side of Great Harbour before we can turn east and then south down the east side of the Berrys. The northern most Islands in the Berrys are Big and Little Stirrup Cays. Over the Last 15 years both islands have been developed as Cruise ship day anchorages. Today there are two ships anchored, we have seem as many as five. On the islands they have manufactured beaches that had not previously existed. Lots of buildings. Currently, at CoCo Cay (the cruise ship renamed Little Stirrup Cay) they are building a water park and a long pier so they don’t to take customers ashore via launches.

Anchor dug in

The last couple weeks with high winds there were no cruise ships here. We sail most of the way to Hoffmans with a little motoring sailing on the eastern leg of the trip. We anchor behind White Cay in one of the few areas in the Berrys that has nearly 360 degree protection. We immediately go ashore on White Cay and enjoy the 360 degree views.
