Sunday morning we head
down to South Miami to Coconut Grove. It is just a 3 hour run, but we
have a few open bridges to contend with. The first just south of
FIU Cove opens at 8:15 AM. An overcast, windy morning and hardly any
boats are out. Big contrast to the last two sunny days.
We pick up a
mooring at Dinner Key Municipal Marina around 11:30 AM. They have
expanded the mooring field since we were last here two years ago and
we are out a lot farther. The good news is the Dinner Key Marina
building is finished and is very nice. The showers on the second
floor even have round windows with a view. Unfortunately even though
they expanded the mooring field they did not expand the dinghy dock
so it is more crowded than ever. There around about 10 dinghies that
never move wasting even more space.
Amongst the dinghies are a
few Manatees snoozing away and sticking their snouts up every 15
minutes or so to take a breath. They have a bit of growth on them
like some of the long suffering dinghies there. I really want to
jump in with a scrub brush and clean them up, but unfortunately that
would be against the law and the Manatees would probably not
appreciate it.
