Alaska road trip, 2024

 June 6

For our first day of our RV trip to Alaska we were up at 6:00 AM and left at “Crack of Noon”. After many trips to the Bahamas and living on our 36 foot sailboat for 10 months at a time we are finding it hard to adjust to 21 feet of RV and the much more limited storage space.

On the other hand we can quickly drive to a store and get what we need, unlike our sailboat where we have to be more self-sufficient and carry food for weeks, spare parts and tools. We are slow to adjust to this new, to us, mode of traveling.

We take the scenic route, crossing Lake Champlain on the Plattsburgh ferry, which may be the extent of our cruising on the Lake this season.

I had planned to head towards Ottawa, Canada, but with our late start we stopped short at the “Akwesasne Mohawk Casino”, just as a cold front starts a couple hours of rain. They have an RV park, a parking lot with power and water, and a dump station, none of which we need. So after dinner in the Casino we move to the regular plan old RV parking lot, which currently has 6 or so RV’s parking for free.
