Dease Lake

In the morning we head east on the ALCAN (RT 1) and around noontime we reach the Junction with the Cassiar (RT 37) south. We get off the ALCAN here, to head south.  The Cassiar was only finished in 1972. Fortunately they have made a lot of improvements since then, like two lane bridges.

Interesting name for a restaurant “Wolf it Down”

The northern half does not have any shoulders, lines. Gas stations are much further apart. You definitely need to gas up when you approach ½ empty, in case the next gas station is closed. Back in July much of northern BC lost internet for a few days and gas stations would only take cash.

Early afternoon we stop at Jade City. A store and mining operation for Jade. They sell half the raw jade they quarry and make objects for sale at their store with the other half.

Linda talks with another couple towing a trailer which apparently had a wheel bearing go bad and the wheel came off.  They will be waiting here for a couple days for a new part to get delivered from Watson Lake.

New section of  chip seal pavement, gravel over tar, gets a little dusty for a few days.

Feed me !

We stop at Dease Lake to gas up at the one and only gas station and a surprisingly large food store, indicating a fairly large population in the area.

We stop for the night just south of Dease Lake at a Lions club campground along a river for $10 a night.  We are the only customers here.
